A saiga for 1k? Holy cow. I think that is one of the seven signs of the apocalypse. You can find a better price!

Is it already converted to pistol grip or something?

That's a lot of money for that rifle. Have you considered a shotgun or common hunting rifle for home defense?

Good self-control avoiding panic buying and thinking on it.

For "home defense" I would buy a shotgun not battle rifle. A lot cheaper too.

You can find a reasonable FFL and have 2 romaks for nearly the same price.

checked the other store =1000$ they all are the same ,don't know much about that stuff ,
maybe in 6-10 months prices go down because panic will subside
The guy ,-sales person know a lot about guns, but I he sound like fear mongering person,he said gun will be gone tomorrow,
he said he has 20000 rounds at home, before he said he has 40 pistols
well I leave at this
he sound like TA no pun intended

Re: Just visited gun store???

DO NOT count on prices dropping in 6-10 months. If you want one, get it now. As others have suggested, 1K sounds like a lot for a Saiga. AR rifles may run $700-$1100, so that one may not be horribly overpriced.

The Saiga may very well be gone tomorrow, but that's OK. Find a local transfer FFL dealer for you (gunbroker.com has them, listed on their site). They should xfer the weapon for $25-$45. Buy a reasonably priced AK clone off Gunbroker or J&G Sales or Classic Arms, have it sent to your xfer dealer.

By the way, what's so wrong about having 20K rounds of ammo. Or 40 pistols? That sounds like a good start to me!:tongue_ma:

I got to shoulder one of these this weekend at one of my favorite local gunshops.... He was wanting like 550 or 600 for it... Had a few AKs in stock as well....

Also, some full auto HKs (Not that I could afford or legally own them)...

Ummmm....yeah.....right.... So what you're saying is the owner of property has no right to set a price on his property. Right? He should set it at YOUR price, because you're his "brother"???? Methinks not.

It's all about making money, and spinning the story to justify the price, meester TA. That's called "sales." I don't care if you're selling a car, a weapon, or a silver round.

If a buyer is uneducated enough (or desperate enough) to pay his price, so be it. Seller sets a price, buyer either pays it or not.

I think there are much better alternatives for home defense for a lot less than $1,035.

Cruff I am all about the free market...........really I am.

But sometimes (and I use that sparingly) There is just flat out goughing and when I hear that "It will be gone by tommarow" I think Of that fat greasy used car saleman that says "Imma give you a good deal CAUSE I REALLY LIKE YOU"

I just cant do it ...........I mean all or lives we have been getting @$$ raped by these bozo's and know we do it among ourselves in a heart beat.

In a warped way it justfies what they do. The logic would be quite sound: If they are screwing themselves over we may as well be doing it. Since we do it the best.

If I am wrong for thinking that way......I will be guitly as charged.

When I sell something on Fleabay or GunBroker, I look at how similar items have been priced. I set the price at a reasonable (probably high) price. If it sells, great! If it doesn't sell, then I'll re-list & maybe drop prices after a few weeks.

If a local brick & mortar firearms dealer sets a price I feel is excessive, I don't buy. I don't feel outraged, insulted, or start planning his demise.

"I would [snip] pistol whip the sh!t out his sorry @$$ ,bust both kneecaps wide open and prison shank him in the left kidney."

No...not for me. I am not OWED a darn thing, other than what I rightfully earn on this planet.

The free is market is the free market. weather I like something or not no one is under obligation to do or buy anything.

It just made me mad a hell when I saw that....... but my opinion should not color the whole experince.

I have to take a back seat on this one.

Your Point is well made and duly noted good sir :ok:

Now there you go again, saying that I'm right. Careful now!:36_1_30:

Yes, I've overpaid on "goodies" (>30% on a Calico 9mm 951 carbine, for example, back ~1994). I chalk it up to eagerness/stoopidity/panic. Oh well - I wanted it, I got it. Now it's a matter of whether I can sell it at some "reasonable" (OK, greedy) price. Since the latest "panic" is kicking in, that might be more possible than a few years ago.

NO, THAT'S NOT A GOOD PRICE! Too much at HALF that price...

I sold a new .308 Saiga a few weeks ago to another gunshow exhibitor for $600...my asking price was $650.

There are several websites that claim to be getting more rifles in at the end of the month. You can always find an FFL dealer who will order you one for a much more reasonable price, if you shop around. Also check http://www.gunbroker.com/ for realistic market prices....

Well, I just checked gunbroker and most of their prices are WHACKED. Only saw one for $399 (free shipping) and the rest were $899 and UP...:banghead: All I can say is don't panic, there are millions of them in the country by now and you will eventually cross paths with one for a fair price.

Holy crap that's expensive! I think I paid $475 for my 7.62x39 back in November. Was it already converted?

Keep in mind that there are a couple of versions of the Saiga. One has the AK pistol grip and can take standard AK mags. These were running at about $500 before the rush, but I haven't seen any lately (not that I've been looking). The other looks like a hunting rifle with no pistol grip, and it won't take standard AK mags. If you want hi-cap mags, you'll have to order ones specially made for the Saiga (Surefire is one brand) at about $35 - $40 a pop.

Either way, the price is high. If you want a regular Saiga in 7.62 x 39, Atlantic has them in stock - I just ordered one an hour ago. Under $500 including shipping. Email or call them first to make sure they still have some. They also have the mags.

Now that is some good advice. A pump action 12GA is about the cheapest boomstick you're gonna find and they are probably the best home defense weapon.
